Complication of tunneled dialysis catheter of chronic ulcer in the site of vascular access entry leading to suspected squamous cell carcinoma (SCC): a case report

Introduction: Catheter-related infection (CRI) is one of the most common vascular access complications in dialysis catheter-related procedures. However, repeated chronic infected ulcer that leads to suspected malignancy a tunneled catheter (TDC) insertion site and its risk factor have not been reported. Case description: A 37 years-old woman presented with exudative right breast at entry catheter. The past medical history included type 2 diabetes mellitus, kidney disease, hepatitis C, obesity. patient had routine hemodialysis TDC for last years changed 3 times due recurrent CRI. At first, lesion appeared as small pustule enlarged recurrently. Later, progressed into an 82x80 mm raised crateriform raw surface similar Marjolin’s squamous cell carcinoma. was referred oncology limited facilities our hospital. Conclusion: CRI long-term TDC. In out case, this led change TDC, inflammation then became Ulcer. Risk factors SCC were immunosuppressive state from diabetes, CKD, ulcer. can be considered complication Early prevention controlling should prevent such complications.
